Words of Wisdom
"And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their habitation, so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; for 'in Him we live and move and have our being...'"
- St. Paul, "Acts of the Apostles" Chapter 17 vs 26-28
There are no easy answers on the spiritual path. Christianity is the hardest path of all because it reveals bad news before it reveals good news. Our life is meant to be lived in union with God, full of peace and joy. But our unity with God is broken, which explains all our difficulties and struggles with life; even when things are going pretty well!! This is a hard truth, but to me, this is the very proof that it is true. Truth always contains something that we don't like, as much as we hate to admit it. However, the good - the greatest news, is that God has repaired the connection between our hearts and minds through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
This is a hard truth and not one that comes easy - St. Paul, in the above passage, says that finding God is like "groping." Like searching for our keys in the dark - hoping for a touch of familiarity from the unseen.
Another truth about the spiritual journey. It cannot be rushed.
I used to jump in with both feet to every exciting truth that I found - looking for the experience to last. But time has revealed that spirituality is a process, a journey, and not a destination. It's easy to end up in the wrong place if your mistake the signpost for the final destination.
Day by day I'm learning that the best vehicle for a spiritual journey is faith. The best fuel is prayer and meditation. Relying on the source of truth to lead you to Himself is the safest path.
